From AREA 3 Vice Director

Good morning,

POCs please forward this out to your Chapter Membership ASAP.

If you have not heard by now, Autrey James, Commander of the American Legion, Department of California, has removed the ALRDOC President, Vice President, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Judge Advocate, from their positions. Additionally , the current Junior Past President was removed from the ALRDOC Executive Committee. This was done by Commander James at a meeting of the ALRDOC Executive Committee last night. All Area Vice Directors and other appointed officers remain in their positions. The ALRDOC Secretary, Debbie Proffitt, has been placed in charge of day to day operations of the ALRDOC until elections can be conducted in January 2022 to fill the vacated positions, however, Commander James has taken control of ALRDOC for the time being.

This action was taken by Commander James as a result of his loss of faith in the ability of the senior leadership of ALRDOC to effectively run the program. The Commander also pointed out other issues during his address to the Executive Committee. I have attached a copy of his address and actions he is taking which go into effect immediately. Please read it carefully. Amongst them will be background checks and Youth Protection Training for the newly elected leaders.

During a question and answer session after he spoke, Commander James directed that the titles Director and Vice Director start being used immediately.

The chapter bylaws which are still due December 20, 2021, are to be sent to Debbie Proffitt at [email protected]

On a lighter note, the ALRDOC Executive Committee voted to grant a charter to Chapter 147 - Clovis. I have invited them to Sunday's group ride to Merced. Hopefully they will be able to join us.
